volunteer artists

Singer: Singers will be servant leaders in the church who guide our congregation in prayer, scripture, and formation through utilizing the beauty of the human voice. This is an auditioned position. These volunteers will be required to sing with other singers with harmony when possible and may be asked to lead the melody of songs on their own. These artists will be responsible for putting in likely an hour or more of individual practice each week before and after attending weekly group rehearsals. Additionally, the Singers will also be called upon in some cases to read Scripture, instruct worshipers in standing and sitting in services, and guide the congregation through clear, biblically-based statements of transition.


Worship Band Member: These Volunteer Artists will be servant leaders who guide our congregation using organized musical accompaniment of sung theology in our 11 o’clock service. This is an auditioned position, and the instrumentalist must demonstrate proficiency in tempo, reading/playing chord charts, dynamic control, group mentality, and musical intuition The praise band offers many ways an instrumentalist might blend into the whole sonic spectrum of a particular band arrangement. The TCCC worship department welcomes all instrumentalists to join our team. A typical band arrangement for us include: Drumkit, Bass Guitar, Acoustic Guitar, Piano, Keys, Violin, Electric Guitars. All other instruments are encouraged and welcomed.


11 o'clock Worship Leader: This servant leader will be responsible for leading either or both the Praise band and singers during rehearsals and Sunday morning worship. These qualified leaders will be able to comprehend the ins and outs of each service, understand moments of transition, have strong musical sensibilities, speak clearly and confidently, be able to either play an instrument well or sing strongly. This leader will also need some minor technical abilities as well and be able to communicate with the tech team about any needs which might arise. This competent volunteer will also need to be able to communicate effectively with other volunteers about any changes in musical arrangements, or scheduling. Ultimately, the 11 o’clock worship leader will be responsible for leading in lieu of the worship minister on staff. 


9:30 Worship Leader: This servant leader will lead the congregational singing in our traditional service. This leader must demonstrate a familiarity of hymns, the ability to conduct, and a strong voice for guiding our congregation musically. The 9:30 worship leader will be assigned hymns the week of the Sunday Service.


Instrumentalist: An instrumentalist is a servant leader who will accompany the congregational songs in our 9:30 service. Typically, these songs are accompanied by piano, organ, and other keyboards, but we would welcome proficient acoustic guitarists, flautists, violinists, oboe, clarinet, etc.


Special Music: The Message in song portion of our 9:30 service is conducted by volunteer artists who determine the music they will present in advance with the oversight of the worship minister or other leaders. This servant leader will also be responsible for obtaining any backing tracks needed for their performance of the music. They will need to get the music to the worship minister or tech team well in advance before the Sunday Morning they are scheduled. This person will also be responsible for coordinating any rehearsal/run-through times at the church with either the worship minister or other tech team volunteers.


Choir Member: The TCCC Worship Choir is a non-audition choir which leads our 9:30 congregation in worship through congregational songs and Choral anthems nearly every Sunday Morning within the choir season (Roughly August to the end of May/beginning of June). Familiarity with reading music is a must for our choir, but we will take anyone who exhibits servant leadership and is willing to learn. Our Choir rehearses every Wednesday night at 6:30 within the choral season.


Rejoicing Ringers (Handbell Choir): The TCCC Rejoicing Ringers are a non-audition handbell choir. Members of the handbell choir will perform one Sunday Morning (9:30) per month in the fall and spring (Sept-Dec/Jan-May). Reading Music is not as important of a requirement for this volunteer position as counting beats, though increasing musical readership is encouraged. The Handbell Choir traditionally has rehearsed on Sunday Mornings after the 11 o’clock service in the choir room behind the worship platform.


TC3PO (Tates Creek Christian Church Praise Orchestra): This is a non-audition orchestra group. TC3PO serves in our 9:30 worship time once per month in the fall and spring (Sept-Dec/Jan-May). Reading music, awareness of minor music theory/orchestration, and understanding and maintaining your instrument is a must for all servant leaders in this position. TC3PO rehearses on Monday evenings.

Camera Operator: The Camera operator is the entry-level volunteer position in the tech team. This servant leader is responsible for responding to cues in each worship service/event for which they are scheduled. The camera operator must be able to manipulate the camera as to anticipate and follow the subject who may be leading the worship gathering at a given moment. This will include listening to directions from the Video Director through an earpiece, as well as gaining familiarity with the camera functions, and tripod settings. The camera operator is responsible for showing our people what to look at in worship by presenting a smooth, clear picture.


Audio Technician: The Audio technician is a person who exhibits servant leadership by offering a quality sound reinforcement of the musical and spoken aspect of the worship gatherings. This volunteer will demonstrate attention to details within the order of service so that transitions within services are arrived at smoothly. This person will be responsible for maintaining appropriately audible levels and be able to mix multiple sounds at once to produce a pleasant mix that is limited in technological distractions. The ideal volunteer will want to learn how they can best work to eliminate feedback and utilize equalization to make speakers and singers sound natural. This person will need to be able to hear the extreme ends of the sonic spectrum to be able to troubleshoot issues in real time within services. This person should pay careful attention to what is coming next so that appropriate channels are muted or unmuted to allow subjects to be heard.


Online Audio Technician: This servant leader will adjust the mix for the online stream. It will be helpful for this person to have all the abilities as the Audio technician.


Lighting Operator: This servant leader will be responsible for showing the congregation where to look in our Sunday morning worship services and special events. The lighting operator is an entry-to-mid level position in the tech team. This person will be able to advance through preset cues within lighting scenes set for each element of a given service. This person will also need to receive training so that they can adjust lighting in live settings in an efficient and efficacious manner.


Video Director: The Video Director is a servant leader who is responsible for showing our congregation both in-person and online, what they should be looking at in a service. The goal of this position is to present a seamless and professional service from a visual perspective. This person will act as the “brain” of the video system, calling for which shots they would like camera operators and graphics operators to show, organizing a logical flow of cuts between cameras, varying the types of shots, and anticipating the next element in service by use of the comm systems, and multiple shots. This person will also be responsible for operating a switcher board and a remote camera system.


Graphics Operator: This servant leader will assist the congregation in what they see by presenting graphics and lyrics slides. This person will become familiar with our presentation software ProPresenter7. This person will advance pre-made slides live during the services, responding to and coordinating with the worship leader, preacher, speakers, and the Video director. For lyrics to music, this person must anticipate and advance slides in a timely manner before the line to be sung is needed to appear on-screen.

Prayer Ambassador: This servant leader will join our prayer team in praying for our church both inside and outside of our Sunday morning worship gatherings. These prayer ambassadors Furthermore, these prayer ambassadors are invited to pray at our weekly rehearsals for our 11 o’clock services.


Scripture Reader: This servant leader will assist the congregation in hearing the Word of God in creative and artful ways. Scripture readers will rehearse selected passages to be presented in services clearly and with dynamic vocal projection. Scripture readers are encouraged to memorize scripture as a discipline, but presenting scripture from memory is by no means a requirement. 


Service Host: This servant leader will be responsible for hosting the service. This person will be responsible for greeting and announcements and potentially leading the congregation through a giving moment. This person will be able to share stories energetically and motivate the people of the church to take next steps in service, discipleship and love for the church, events, and mission efforts in the community.


Usher: This servant leader is responsible for assisting our congregation in two very important ways we worship: The Lord’s Supper and Offering. These people will be responsible for passing communion and offering trays at particular moments in the service in a timely and efficient manner. Ushers will also be able to assist new visitors in finding seats, familiarizing them with different parts of the building.
