What is Serve Day? 🛠️❤️ It’s one of our favorite days of the year—when we roll up our sleeves and care for the place we call our church home, together. We say the Church is the people (and it is)… but our building is like our front porch. It’s the first welcome someone experiences. So let’s make it feel warm, inviting, and full of life. FAQs: • Do I need to sign up? Nope, just show up ready to help! • What should I bring? Work gloves, shovels, rakes, blowers, chainsaws, wheelbarrows, hedge trimmers… whatever you’ve got. Be sure to wear clothes and shoes that can get a little dirty! • What if I don’t have tools or supplies? No problem! We’ll have plenty of projects you can jump in on and tools/ supplies to share. • Can I bring my kids? Yes! It’s a great way to serve together as a family and to meet new people. ❤️ Our challenge for you this Serve Day is to meet someone new! #MissionMonday ❤️ | Step By Step | Toby's Story "For years my daughters had been telling me that I needed to volunteer. They did not have any recommendations, just… volunteer. Great!! Then one Sunday there was a woman and child sitting on the front church pew. She was interviewed and told her story of an unexpected teen pregnancy—the proof sitting next to her. She also shared about an organization called Step By Step—a group of women who literally step up to offer a helping hand. Just a few things they teach are how to be a mom, how to find a place to live, how to interview for a job, and not the least of which, they teach about God and His Son Jesus. I’m fairly certain that’s just a small representation of what they do. I thought this could be the place for me. However, I am president and CEO of procrastinators international… so I didn’t act on that until a year later, when there was another mom and child sitting on the front church pew sharing a similar story. All that did was delay one of the best and most rewarding experiences of my life. Step By Step has a Thursday program called Revive where they do much of this teaching. I have the privilege of driving moms and their children there—and taking them home. One evening, a beautiful girl (maybe one year old) came out of the children’s area, her hair braided with colorful decor. She tried to push open the front door, then turned and looked at me. I smiled and waved. After a moment, she slowly walked toward me, stood right in front of me, and raised both arms. I picked her up, and she laid her head on my shoulder. Someone from SBS said, “we knew Mr. Toby would be holding a child before the evening was over.” Another night, I heard a child crying and went back to see what was wrong. A little girl was inconsolable. I asked to hold her, put her head on my shoulder, rubbed her back, and whispered that everything would be alright—and she stopped crying. People, it doesn’t get any better than that." Most everyone has a shoulder. Most everyone has a hand. Most everyone can lean in and remind someone they’re not alone. What could it look like for you to step in?

Bittersweet Sunday ahead 🤎 This weekend, we’ll hear one final message from our Senior Minister, Justin Fluhr, as he prepares to step into a new calling at Journey Christian Church in Apopka, Florida. We’re so grateful for Justin, his leadership, and the entire Fluhr family—and we’re covering their next chapter and ministry in prayer. And while we send them with love, we’re also prayerfully expectant and excited for what God has ahead for us here at TCCC. A couple things to know as you make plans to be with us tomorrow: — Our Elder Board will be sharing an update for us all — We’ll gather for a reception honoring the Fluhr family at 12:30pm following services. Come take a moment to say thank you, share your encouragement, and send them off with love. Light refreshments will be available in the Hearth Room, just off the lobby. It’s not goodbye—it’s sending. SATURDAY Jesus is silent on Saturday. The women have anointed his body and placed it in Joseph’s tomb. He spoke much on Friday. He will liberate the slaves of death on Sunday. But on Saturday, Jesus is silent. It is the day between the pain and the promise. It's the day many followers of Jesus find themselves living in. The world feels heavy, the grief feels painful, the plan feels broken, the enemy feels powerful-- and yet we know there is a promise. "On Saturday we wait, while at the same time, hope grows. On Saturday, we stand defiant in whatever we face that the enemy does not win." We wait with expectation for the hope that is to come. Don't ignore Saturday. “Be patient, brethren, until the coming of the Lord” (James 5:7)

HOLY WEEK | GOOD FRIDAY Late Thursday night in Gethsemane, Jesus was arrested—betrayed by one of His own disciples and abandoned by His others. The Chief Priests and the Sanhedrin called for secret trials in the dead of night, and the verdict was handed down that Jesus would be crucified. Never before or since has more been lost and gained at the same time as at Jesus’ crucifixion. The goodness of Good Friday is that because He walked silently to the cross, like a Lamb to slaughter, not protesting the punishment meted out upon Him, we have hope. He was rejected by God that we might be made acceptable to God, a people for His own possession. The goodness of Good Friday is that Christ came to redeem blind, deaf, and rebellious people just like us. He came to bear upon Himself the guilt of our sin: "He was pierced because of our rebellion, crushed because of our iniquities; punishment for our peace was on him, and we are healed by his wounds." -Isaiah 53:5 "Jesus let out a loud cry and breathed His last." -Mark 15:37 TONIGHT @ 7 pm | Good Friday Service🤎

A crowd of people gather outside the city to welcome Jesus and they’re waving palm branches. They’re shouting “Hosanna” which means “save now.” Save us. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. How does the King enter Jerusalem? On a donkey. Jesus came as a humble shepherd. What a special weekend we had gathering together for Palm Sunday. 🌿 What a way to step into Holy Week together. Church, Sunday is coming. May we anticipate it with anxious hearts. 🤍

Happy Palm Sunday! Today marks the beginning of Holy Week, which is the week leading up to Easter. Over the coming days, we invite you to join us as we walk through what the last days of Jesus’ life looked like and what we can learn from it. Take this week slowly and reverently. It is a somber time, but let us never forget: Sunday is coming. HOLY WEEK | PALM SUNDAY Palm Sunday commemorates when Jesus entered Jerusalem on the back of a donkey and was greeted by people waving palm branches. Men and women hailed him with cries of "Hosanna!" and choruses of what was written in Psalm 118, "Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!" This was a day of celebration, the King had arrived. He was what all of humanity needed and still needs, the one with the authority to bring peace. They took palm branches and went out to meet him, shouting, "Hosanna!" "Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!" "Blessed is the king of Israel!" 🌿

This Sunday brought both gratitude and transition for our church family. Our senior minister, Justin Fluhr, and our elder board shared that Justin and his family have been called to serve as the new Lead Pastor at Journey Christian Church in Apopka, Florida. While this news brings a mix of emotions, we are deeply thankful for Justin’s leadership and the spiritual growth and ministry that have taken place during his time here. Please join us in praying for the Fluhr family as they step into this new calling. More information will be shared in the coming weeks as we begin this transition together. We trust that God will continue to guide and bless TCCC as we seek His will as a church family. More to come!

As Connections Minister, Ernie oversees around eight ministries, serves on our Sunday preaching team rotation, and is one of our teachers for Wednesday Night Refresh. Raised as a minister’s son and originally from Anderson County, KY, Ernie has been faithfully serving in ministry for 43 years and has spoken in over 100 churches. Ernie and his wife, Pam, have two married daughters and four grandchildren. His passion is teaching God’s Word, leading people into meaningful Biblical community, and helping others grow as devoted followers of Jesus. When he’s not at church, Ernie loves UK sports, eating out, country ham, the Oak Ridge Boys, taking day trips in his ’98 Corvette, and—most of all—playing with his grandkids! 💛

As Executive Minister, Robert oversees the day-to-day operations of our church, including strategic planning, administration, finances, and human resources. Alongside his wife, Dawn, Robert helps ensure our church is healthy, organized, and positioned to serve our community well. Originally from New Orleans, Louisiana, Robert and Dawn are parents to four children and grandparents to three. Outside of church, you’ll find Robert camping with family and friends, playing drums or bass guitar, or creating something delicious in the kitchen (ask him about his shrimp and grits). Robert has a deep heart for discipleship and is passionate about leading others to go and make disciples. Recently, Robert and Dawn felt a call to fostering and began that journey—and in 2025, they adopted their son Gabe, whom they first met through Tates Creek Christian Church. What a beautiful blessing and testimony of God’s faithfulness. 💛

Dan and his wife, Karen, are natives of Illinois and both graduates of the music department at Lincoln Christian University. Together, they’ve been faithfully leading music ministries for over 50 years—what a legacy! With three sons and eight grandchildren, Dan and Karen came to Kentucky thinking they might retire… but that didn’t last long. Serving the Lord is truly their greatest joy, and we’re so grateful for the heart, wisdom, and passion they bring to worship each week here at Tates Creek Christian Church. 🤍 You can find Dan planning for the next Choir production or leading our church choir on Wednesday evenings and Sunday mornings. Nathan has been serving our 6th–12th grade students here at Tates Creek Christian Church since 2019, and we’re so thankful for his heart for students and families. Originally from Indiana, Nathan holds a Bachelor’s in Bible & Ministry from Kentucky Christian University and a Master’s in Worship Studies from the Robert E. Webber Institute for Worship Studies. You can find Nathan leading our students during their 9:30am service upstairs, playing games with students around the church on Sunday evenings, or playing guitar and helping lead our worship team during the 11am service on Sunday mornings. When he’s not at church, you’ll probably find him watching soccer, playing video games, or spending time with friends. Nathan is married to his wife, Lauren, and they were married this past October. If you have a middle or high school student, Nathan would love to meet you! 🤍

“The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light.” — Isaiah 9:2 On Christmas Eve, we pause at the threshold of Christmas—holding both the waiting of Advent and the JOY of what is about to be revealed. We remember that Jesus did not arrive with noise or spectacle. He came quietly, humbly, born into the ordinary. God chose closeness over grandeur. Presence over perfection. In a world still marked by uncertainty and weariness, the Light of Christ breaks through—not by erasing the darkness, but by entering it. Hope takes on flesh. Love comes near. This is the heart of Christmas: God with us. Not distant. Not removed. Fully present. As we prepare our hearts for Christmas Day, may we slow down long enough to receive this gift again. May we remember that the same God who came to us in Bethlehem continues to meet us right where we are. The Light has come. And nothing will ever be the same. And one day closer to His return.

In November, our church family came together in a simple but powerful way. As many in our community began facing new challenges with the loss of SNAP benefits, we knew we wanted to be part of the solution. Through a special offering, you gave generously to help support our local mission partners who are meeting real, growing needs right here at home. Because of your faithfulness, we were able to provide partners like Step By Step Lexington with extra funding—and in early December, that support turned into something truly special. A warm holiday meal, festive décor, a jolly Santa, and a Christmas party created just for the moms and families they serve. In the middle of it all, we surprised them with a special love offering that made a meaningful difference for their families. Here’s what Step By Step Lexington shared with us: “Thank you so much for all that TCCC does to support Step By Step- all year round- but especially at Christmas time! We always say that TCCC is the model of what a church partnership should look like. We couldn’t be more appreciative of the way you all support our work and mission. Thank you for showing our moms and kids how loved and valued they are, we are so grateful for you!” Church family—this is what it looks like when love moves beyond words and into action. Thank you for caring for our neighbors, for giving generously, and for showing our community just how deeply they are loved. Merry Christmas!❤️
